Keep Lewisville Beautiful awards $1500 Waste Management scholarship

Published: Tuesday, February 26, 2013 11:23 AM CST
Keep Lewisville Beautiful executive director Amy Wells received one of three national $1500 Waste Management scholarships to attend the national Keep America Beautiful 60th annual conference, held earlier this year in Washington, D.C. Scholarships were awarded based on the applicant's ability to share and implement what they have learned at the conference in the local community and/or financial need of applicant's new and growing KAB Affiliate. Wells attended the Jan. 29 conference as a first time KLB attendee.

"I am so honored that Waste Management chose me for their scholarship program. Attending the KAB conference for the first time was a great learning experience-I was able to see what so many great affiliates are doing across our country and learned valuable tips and suggestions for programs that I implement in my own community through KLB's programs," Wells said. "I cannot thank Waste Management enough for the amazing learning opportunity that they have given me through their scholarship program."

In addition to receiving this award, KLB was also recognized with Keep America Beautiful's President's Circle award. The President's Circle Award recognizes exemplary performance made by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit in building and sustaining vibrant communities.

Working together we can make a difference. If you would like to volunteer, sponsor, or learn more about KLB call 972-538-5949 or visit www.keeplewisvillebeautiful.org.

" I don't comment usually, but i feel like I must. I just went to an event sponsored by the Chamber and Waste Management. Councilman Vaughn was provided 10 minutes to speak. In fact, he took 26 minutes to slowly read prepared remarks. So indulgent and arrogant to waste our time like that as he read city staff prepared propaganda. I go to five chambers in the area and Lewisville is consistantly the most amateur and pretentious. We had to stand for 20 minutes before we could sit at our tables because the tables were not ready. I have been a member for 7 years, but if they dont get control of their events I will not renew this year. "
