On Feb. 28, the CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) awarded a $23,014.30 grant to the Little Elm Police Department for the purchase of a Live Scan booking station.
The unit enables the department to conduct inkless electronic fingerprinting of crime suspects, which reduces the time to process background and identification information between Little Elm police and the Department of Public Safety in Austin.
“It also allows for a civilian employee to book the prisoner so the arresting officer can get back out on the street,” Capt. Leslie Smith said. “With this equipment, the process to book a prisoner goes from about three hours to only 15 minutes.”
CCF is supported by CoServ Electric, and funding for the foundation is made possible by donations from residential CoServ Electric Members and CoServ Gas Customers who donate to Operation Roundup® by rounding up their bills to the nearest dollar. All of the extra pennies are used to directly support social, charitable and civic programs in the CoServ service area.
Other funding sources include CoServ Employee contributions via payroll deductions and onetime gifts throughout the year, and Employee events. The funds raised are classified as “unrestricted” and may support activities or organizations outside the CoServ footprint.
