Peaking late: Lobos roll North Forney, 74-50

Tuesday's Class 4A bi-district playoff opener couldn’t have gone much better for Little Elm.
The Lobos were dominant over the final three quarters against North Forney and cruised to a 74-50 victory behind a game-high 23 points from senior point guard Devante’ Pullum.
“We didn’t play very good in the first quarter,” said Rusty Segler, Little Elm head coach. “When we woke up offensively, we took care of business.”
“I told them ‘this is ridiculous,’ and that we have to play better,” Segler said.
Little Elm got its usual balance on offense, with four players scoring in double figures. Seniors Jalen Bridges and Biron Josheph posted 19 and 17 points, respectively, while senior forward Shaun Grant added 10 to go with Pullum’s game-high 23.
“We’ve been playing with a rhythm,” Segler said. “It’s a good thing to do; to peak at this time of year.”
After each team poured in 18 points during the third quarter, the Lobos widened their lead in the fourth stanza with a 24-point outburst. The offensive onslaught gave Little Elm a 74-50 victory and improved the team to 24-7 on the season.
“We played some really good defense,” Segler said.
The Lobos will now prepare for an area-round contest against Woodrow Wilson tonight. The two teams will square off at 7:30 p.m. at Carrollton R.L. Turner.
“[Wilson] is about as good as they come,” Segler said. “They’re where they are now because they’re good.”
The Lobos enter the matchup on a four-game winning streak fueled by the team’s balanced offensive attack.
“We had three of the top four scorers in our district,” Segler said. “Offensively, we need to come through with what they average.”
Wilson is fresh off a 65-59 victory over South Oak Cliff after a second-place finish in District 12-4A.
“We’re not afraid of anybody,” Segler said. “We definitely respect [Wilson], but we’re not afraid.”
