Dentists and staff from McKinneyDentist.com provided free dental care to more than 200 community members in need on Saturday, Feb. 16 as part of their 16th annual Free Dentistry Day.
McKinneyDentist.com treated individuals in need of care on a first-come, first-served basis. Community members started lining up outside the dental office Friday evening to receive care.
A team of 45 volunteers and 11 dentists treated patients around the clock. Dentists provided more than $100,000 in free dental services - ranging from extractions and fillings to root canals - to individuals who otherwise would not have access to basic dental care.
"We often talk about giving back through mission or service trips abroad, but right here in our own backyard, there are people who are hurting and in need. The best way for us to give back is to provide dental care to community members in need," said Dr. Marvin Berlin of McKinneyDentist.com. "This event was extremely rewarding and humbling for everyone involved."
Dave Arndt, ministry director and president/pastor of Restoration Ministry in Quinlan, an organization that helps individuals who suffered from substance abuse get back on their feet, brought 10 men to the event.
"Many of the men at Restoration Ministry had been complaining of toothaches for months and were in dire need of dental care," said Arndt. "Following their treatments, the men expressed their gratefulness to the dentists and staff, saying the care they received was a major stepping stone in helping to turn their lives around."
"This was my first time to participate in Free Dentistry Day and I'm extremely grateful that I made the trip from my hometown of Midlothian to McKinney," said patient Jean Gibson. "Words cannot express the gratitude I have for the dentists and their staff who volunteered their time to ensure more members of our community have access to basic dental care."
