Shirley N. Beers, 1921-2012
Our mother, Shirley Beers, was known to many in the Lewisville, Texas, area. She was a very creative person with an indomitable spirit. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In 1944 she married Ed Beers and settled in Texas, where they had three children: Greg Beers, Nina (Nancy) Summer and Robert Beers.
Shirley continued her interest in art and became an accomplished painter studying with known artists such as Ray Froman, Bettina Steinke, Dorothy Scott, Henry Henschee and Harvey Brown.
Shirley's passion was portraits, especially painting native Americans in traditional dress, but also landscapes and still life. She was gifted in pastels, charcoals, oils, and experimented with ceramics, sculpture, and silk screen.
In the late 1980s, when it became harder for her to paint due to Parkinson's, she took up acting in community theater and writing poetry.
The Visual Art League of Lewisville is having an art show in Shirley's honor: Shirley Beers Pioneer Celebration, March 9 - April 27, 2013.
