Football: Creekview comes up just short against district's best
By Justin Thomas, jthomas@starlocalnews.com
Creekview's football team gave Highland Park all it could handle Friday but came up short in a 28-23 loss.
With the win, the Scots (5-0) remain unbeaten in District 10-4A and clinch a playoff berth, while the Mustangs (1-4) fell into a tie for sixth with North Forney.
Creekview now has ground to make up to place in the top four in the district and qualify for the playoffs but the Mustangs still have a chance as they close the season in the next two weeks against Terrell (0-5) and North Forney (1-4), currently eighth and seventh, respectively, in the district.
Defensively, Creekview slowed down Highland Park's passing game, limiting quarterback Jet Tuma to 77 yards on 6-of-15 attempts, including forcing an interception for the game's lone turnover.
However, Tuma made plays with his legs, totaling 152 yards on 19 carries, including three touchdowns.
Creekview continues at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Terrell from Standridge Stadium.
The Tigers (0-5) have dropped their district games by an average score of 35.6 points per game.
