Williamson announces candidacy for city council

If elected to the Southlake City Council, one candidate promises to practice fiscal responsibility and keep up the high quality of life.
Randy Williamson has filed to run for Place 4 on the Southlake City Council. Al Zito currently holds the council seat.
“I’ve been involved in city government for years, including a position on multiple committees, the Parks and Recreation Board and time as a planning and zoning commissioner,” Williamson said. “Having gained valuable experience in those roles, I want to expand and increase my involvement with city government. I look forward to using what I learned on those boards and commissions and apply it as a city council member.”
“Once my family had settled down, and I knew we would be in Southlake for the long-term, my interest grew,” Williamson said. “I had a couple of neighbors who were also interested, and we began conversations about getting involved. Ultimately, I was appointed by the city council to numerous roles, and have continued to be an active participant.”
For the past 21 years, Williamson has worked in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry. Williamson and his wife Amy have been married for 18 years. The two are parents to four children, two boys and two girls, ages 8 to 14. Each of their children attends Carroll ISD schools.
“When you look at my community service records – I’ve coached multiple athletic teams as well as volunteer time as a referee in the Upwards Basketball program – you see how invested I am in this city,” Williamson said.
Williamson is originally from Florida. He said he moved to Texas for work and because of the environment in Texas.
“I enjoy the pride that folks have here who are part of the Texas community. I like the conservative values that so many embody. It’s such a welcoming and family orientated climate,” Williamson said. “Southlake in particular is a fantastic place to settle. We have tremendous schools, and our reputation as a great city is known throughout the country.”
Williamson said as the city moves forward, he hopes to help it continue to practice fiscal responsibility.
“If elected, I will continue to lead Southlake to live within our means and make sound spending decisions,” Williamson said. “I will also work to ensure that we continue as a city and council to oversee the process of quality development of our businesses and residential areas. Finally, an area that’s very important is ensuring that we have strong partnership with our school district and that we’re focused on safety for our children so that they have a safe learning environment.”
Williamson said it is important that there is open conversation between the city council and the school district to ensure that school children are safe. He said SPARK is a great organization that has been able to work with many people to bring them together for important discussions.
Williamson said his campaign is up and running. Currently, he has no challenger for Place 4.
“If I draw an opponent, I’m excited for the campaign and discussing the issues that are important,” Williamson said. “If not, I still will talk to citizens and parents about important issues. I’m prepared if the incumbent chooses to run.”

Election Day is May 11. The filing deadline is March 1.
