Dallas Christian basketball teams win to set up big showdowns on Tuesday

Published: Saturday, February 2, 2013 1:56 PM CST
The Dallas Christian boys and girls basketball teams each took care of business on Friday night with victories over Tyler Grace Community.

That sets the stage for what should be a good double header on Tuesday, when the Charger teams take on Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill in a pair of games that will have big seeding implications in both the boys and girls races.

The Dallas Christian boys stayed perfect at 6-0 in TAPPS 2-4A and improved to 15-1 overall with a 78-55 victory over Grace Community.

The Chargers, who had five players score in double figures, turned a tight game into a rout by outscoring Tyler Grace 44-19 during the second and third quarters.

Will Morgan scored 15 points to lead the DC offense. Cameron Martin and Dominique Wheeler each had 11 points, while Taylor Carson and Justis Nelson added 10 each.

Dallas Christian will put its unblemished record on the line against another undefeated team in TC-Cedar Hill, which carries a perfect 7-0 record into the contest.

Although the Chargers still have one make-up game to play against Parish Episcopal on Thursday, the winner of this game will be the top seed in the TAPPS 2-4A district tournament on Feb. 15-16 at Whitehouse.

The Dallas Christian girls started each of the halves in dominating fashion and that led them to a 54-30 win over Tyler Grace Community.

The Chargers used a 20-4 run to start the game, and then after a sluggish second quarter, went on a 17-7 spurt in the third quarter to open a 41-19 lead.

Hunter Cauley scored 18 points, while Ashlan Mills and Melanie Johnson added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Catherine Rook had 11 points to lead Grace Community.

Although out of the running for the top seed in the 2-4A tournament that has been locked up by undefeated Tyler T.K. Gorman, the Chargers will meet TC-Cedar Hill on Tuesday with the second seed on the line.

Dallas Christian enters the game with a 5-1 district record, with TC-Cedar Hill right on their heels at 5-2.
