Boys basketball: Farmers win a pair

Published: Saturday, December 22, 2012 12:20 AM CST
Lewisville's boys basketball gained some much-needed momentum as the start of District 5-5A play draws near during the past week as the Farmers picked up a pair of wins giving them three consecutive victories overall.

The Farmers (10-4) knocked off Roosevelt Tuesday, 62-52, before following up Friday with a 63-60 win in overtime against Tyler John Tyler.

Against Roosevelt, Caleb Loggins scored a game-high 16 points to go with six rebounds, while Myles Ward posted 13 and Jaden Wright chipped in 12.

"We did a good job," said Gary Collier, Lewisville head coach. "We got the win, which was nice, but we still weren't playing our best. We just need to get to where we can play at a high level every night. We're not there yet, but we're getting better."

One area where Collier has been pleased is on defense. The Farmers limited Roosevelt to just seven points in the first quarter and 12 in the fourth as Lewisville outscored the Mustangs by nine.

"We got the stops we needed late," he said. "But I still don't think we're making enough plays or putting the ball in the hoop. And we missed a lot of free throws early which could have taken off a lot of the pressure late."

Against the Lions, Wright and Anthony Davis scored 15 and 14, respectively, while Ward and Kaelin Love posted 10 points apiece. Tyus Bowser led John Tyler with 25 points.

The squads went to halftime all square at 22-22 and played dead even in both the third and fourth quarters before the Farmers gained a 11-8 margin in overtime.

Lewisville continues at 10:30 a.m. Thursday against Waco Connally in the first round of the MT Rice Tournament in Waco.
