Theft Alert - Special Attention to Dodge Pickup Owners
Staff report
During the previous five week period, The Colony Police Department has received reports of a particular type of theft occurring throughout the city. Catalytic convertors from Dodge (diesel) Pickup Trucks, particularly 2008 and newer, have been removed while the vehicles are parked and unoccupied. The actor(s) have used saws and also have dismantled the entire converter system. Catalytic convertors on these types of vehicles are very expensive to replace (several thousand dollars) and are targeted for their value to re-sale or to "cash-in" as scrap metal.
As of this date, six of the aforementioned style vehicles have fallen victim to this type of theft within the city and have not been confined to any particular area. The common denominator is 2008, or later, Dodge diesel powered pickup trucks.
Most of the thefts have occurred during the late night hours while the vehicle is parked on the street or in driveways. This particular type of Theft has been occurring in other neighboring cities, particularly at car dealerships.
