Fast start lifts Sunnyvale over Leonard

Sunnyvale scored eight runs in the first inning as it cruised to a 13-3 victory over Leonard on Friday.


The Raiders improve to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in 12-2A.

Leonard did try to counter with three runs in the second inning to cut into its deficit, but Sunnyvale added three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to close out the run-rule win.

Wesley Phillips pitched all five innings, striking out eight to earn the win. Zander Thompson had three hits, including a double, with four RBIs. Devin DeLeon had a triple and two runs batted in, Sam Shaver drove in a pair of runs and Jake Wilcox had a two-run double.

Sunnyvale will play non-district games on the road against Lone Oak on Saturday and Wills Point on Tuesday.
