23-4A GIRLS SOCCER: Forney edges Poteet in battle of district leaders
Published: Saturday, March 16, 2013 12:31 AM CDT
As has been proven all season long, there is not much difference between Poteet and Forney.
The first time the two teams meet, neither team was able to score during regulation, with the Pirates prevailing in penalty kicks.
Friday's showdown was just as close. The difference being that the Jackrabbits' Mason Richardson was able to find the back of the net and that proved to be the winner in a 1-0 Forney victory.
The Jackrabbits (10-0-0-1, 31 points) open a six-point lead over the Pirates (7-1-2-0, 25) in the battle for the 23-4A crown. Forney, who has a bye on Tuesday, needs only one point in its season finale to clinch the outright title.
West Mesquite suffered a tough shootout loss to Kaufman on Friday, but is still in third place, two points ahead of Crandall.
The Wranglers will take on Poteet on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
