10-4A BASEBALL: Poteet, West Mesquite drop tight contests

Poteet and West Mesquite were both within reach of their first district victories on Friday, but each will have to wait another day.
The Pirates dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Highland Park. It was a pitcher's duel between Poteet's Chase Coronado and the Scots' Matt Wilson, but Highland Park was able to scratch across the game's only run as the Pirates fell to 0-3 in 10-4A.
West Mesquite fell to North Forney, 3-1. The game was scoreless through four innings before the Wranglers scored to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth.
The Pirates will host 1-2 Carrollton Creekview on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Copeland Field. The Wranglers will travel to face Highland Park (2-1) on Tuesday.
