TUESDAY SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Skeeters, Jaguars pick up wins in non-district play

Mesquite and Horn continued preparation for the start of the 12-5A season next week with a pair of victories on Tuesday.
The Skeeters moved to 5-8 on the season with an 11-1 romp over Highland Park. Lindy Kennedy had a big all-around game, allowing a run on five hits on the mound and tallying a triple and two RBIs at the plate.
Kelsi Coleman added two hits and a pair of runs batted in, while Lilly Garza and Sara McGuire also drove in runs.
The Skeeters will compete in the McKinney/McKinney Boyd Tournament starting on Thursday.
Horn got a huge game from Ashley Moore in a 6-1 victory over Plano West. Moore allowed only one run while belting a home run and adding a double at the plate.
The Jaguars (6-5) are scheduled to participate in the Wylie Tana Jo Thomason Tournament on Thursday through Saturday.
They will be joined at the event by North Mesquite, which slipped to 0-9 on the season with a 19-1 loss to Coriscana on Tuesday. Tiara Mickens had a double and single, while Kayla Goodson drove in the Stallions' lone run.
Also competing at the event will be Rowlett and Poteet, who fell to 6-5 with a 13-8 loss to McKinney North.
The Pirates got plenty of offense. Selena Mendoza had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two runs batted in. Maidson Yannetti also had two doubles and two RBIs, while Cassie Vasquez added a three-run double.
