11-5A BASEBALL: Huge inning lifts Sachse over North Garland in district opener
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
Big innings are hard to overcome in a baseball game.
When an opponent scores 14 times in one frame, the game is as good as over.
That is exactly what Sachse did to North Garland on Tuesday as it rolled to a 15-3 victory in the 11-5A opener for both teams.
That would be more than enough for Kyle Weatherly, who struck out five in five innings to earn the win.
Eric Williams and Josh Lewis each tripled and had three RBIs. Reed Enna had three hits and drove in three, while Blake Dean also had a pair of runs batted in.
Sachse joins Lakeview and Naaman Forest as winners on the opening day of district play. Rowlett had a 11-5A bye and was scheduled to play Argyle in non-district action but that game was cancelled due to a water leak.
The Eagles and Mustangs are scheduled to compete in the Highland Park Scotland Yard Classic on Thursday through Saturday.
They will resume district play on Tuesday with Rowlett hosting Garland and Sachse playing at Lakeview.
