Boys and girls soccer: District 20-4A playoff spots up for grabs
By Justin Thomas, jthomas@starlocalnews.com
A productive past two games for Newman Smith's boys soccer team has the Trojans in the playoffs as the squad (3-1-2) is ahead of fifth-place Little Elm (1-5).
After earning a draw March 1 against The Colony, 2-2, and defeating Creekview on March 5, 2-1, Smith went on the road Tuesday at Highland Park (results not available as of press time) before closing the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday at home against the Lobos.
The Cougars (1-2-4) finish up Friday at Creekview and are third in the standings. The Mustangs (1-3-2) are also in the hunt on the boys side as they are currently fourth and could clinch Tuesday with a win over Little Elm (results not available as of press time).
Creekview (3-1-2), meanwhile, is in firm control of a playoff spot as they try to hold off The Colony (3-2-1) for the second seed from the district behind Highland Park. The Lady Mustangs went on the road Tuesday against Little Elm (results not available as of press time) and close the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday with a showdown at the Lady Cougars. Creekview is coming off playing the defending state champ Lady Scots to a scoreless draw March 8, while the Lady Cougars last saw the pitch March 8 with a 4-1 margin over Little Elm.
