Cross country: Carroll, Hebron and The Colony advance to regionals

Published: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 5:29 PM CDT
As the level of competition and importance of the meet continues to increase, Southlake Carroll's cross country teams continue to churn out first-place finishes.

The latest in the line of sweeps came last Thursday at the District 4-5A Championships at Oak Grove Park in Grapevine where Carroll procured first-place finishes on both the boys and girls side.

With the strong showings, the Dragons and Lady Dragons advance to the Region I Championships, slated for this Saturday in Lubbock.

The top three teams and individuals from non-placing teams that finished in the top 10 qualify for regionals.

"The district meet went well," said Justin Leonard, Carroll head coach. "We are so proud of all of our runners, especially the seniors who ran their last race yesterday. The varsity teams achieved the goal which was to run controlled and qualify for the regional meet."

The Lady Dragons took five of the top 10 spots, totaling 25 points to place ahead of Justin Northwest (47) and Keller Timber Creek (92). The Dragons, meanwhile, claimed six of the top seven places (17 points) to finish well ahead of Timber Creek (60) and Keller (82).

Carroll won't be the only local teams heading to Lubbock as Hebron's boys and girls qualified out of District 5-5A, while The Colony advanced in District 9-4A.

The Hawks (26) finished in third behind Marcus (23) and Flower Mound (24). The girls race followed suit with Marcus in first (20), Flower Mound in second (22) and Hebron in third (26).
