Two life sentences handed down for 2011 Plano murder

Edgar Alberto Romo, 22, of Plano, received two life sentences Wednesday for murder and for aggravated assault.
On June 17, 2011, Romo, armed with a .45 caliber handgun, walked into the living room of Ismael Torres and shot Torres' adult daughter, Gabriela Torres, in the head before gunning down and killing Ismael.Ê When Romo walked in, he told Gabriela that he was going to kill her before shooting her behind the ear.Ê Gabriela survived, but is paralyzed from the neck down.Ê She was able to testify at trial and she identified her attacker as Romo.
Romo's motive was unclear, but his mother was in a relationship with victim Ismael, prosecutors said. Romo, his mother, and victim Gabriela all lived in Ismael's home on 19th Street in Plano.
