Police: Deaths were result of murder, suicide
By Kenny Green, kgreen@starlocalnews.com
The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled that murder/suicide was the cause of death for a family of four.
The bodies of Angelica, Marcelo, Alejandro and Paulina Vasquez were discovered at their home in the 1400 block of Paintbrush on Wednesday, March 13. According to police, Angelica Vazquez, 43, of Mesquite, shot and killed her family before turning the gun on herself.
Officers initially responded to a 911 call at the residence at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. The caller reported hearing gunfire. When officers arrived on the scene, there appeared to be nothing amiss outside the residence and no signs of forced entry. Officers attempted to make contact with the residents at the home but were unsuccessful.
Officers returned for a follow-up to the residence at approximately 7:30 a.m. on March 13. The same officer who visited the residence on March 9 noticed that there was mail in the mailbox and newspapers in the yard. The decision was made to force entry into the locked home, at which point the officers discovered the bodies. A handgun was found on the floor of the master bedroom near the body of Angelica when the bodies were discovered.
Detectives are still investigating, but no motive has yet been determined for the murders.
